Thirty Two by Jusobele

Thirty-Two by Jusobele
Summary: On the eve of Jacob Black's 32nd birthday, he flashes back over his life from age 16. He has known more pain than most men endure in an entire lifetime. Jacob Black deserves his happy ever after. Beta reading by MistC and pre-reading by niamhg.

Remember when you read Breakdown or The Definition of Want and thought, Yes, this is Jacob!? Well, I do. And that's how I feel about Jusobele's version of Jake. This is Jacob. Thank you.

Over the years I have been agravated with Canon Jake that is really a gangster or a whore or an abuser, and it's just not him. If you want him to be that way then write an AH Jake/Bella. It just doesn't make sense to me. Anyway, moving on . . .

This story is very unique in the way that it goes about the actually telling of Jake's story. Firstly, the whole thing is essentially a masive flashback, catagoriezd in years. Because of that there's a lot of telling, which honestly took me a while to get used to. I proimise, though, as the story draws closer to the present, there's much more showing, and it picks up a lot.

After Victoria is klled, Bella breaks up with Edward and runs the hell away. Far, far away to England for school. And she stays there. I know. Jake is dead set on her coming back for him, but she doesn't. He can't seem to move on, and everyone is worried for him. Years pass, and he finally meets someone and reluctantly and cautiously lets her into his life.

Her name is Marie. Marie. Sigh. I love Marie. And you can say what you want about her (those of you that have read it), but she is amazing. She did so much for Jake that no other woman would have considering his hangups. Oh, and the fact that, ya know, he's a werewolf. That scene, by the way, was hysterical.

While Jake is dating Marie, Bella is moving on too. We see this in third person glimpses of her life at the end of each chapter. I wondered for a while why the author would write in first person Jake and then switch to third person Bella. But you know what -- Bella's life is so stinky that this third person works. It's actually quite depressing but in a good way.

Jacob and Bella live seperate (happy and sad) lives until they cross paths again. What will become of them? Will they reconcile? How will Bella deal with his child? With his ex-wife? Read it!

A Week in the Life of Jacob Black

A Week in the Life of Jacob Black by Stacey218
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6867888/1/
They say that your life can be summed up in just handful of important days over your life time. Jacob had seven that made him who he was. And not all of them were good. Jacob/Bella, DarkFic. Limes. Full list of warnings in A/N. Complete :D

I was venting to my friend LuvinJ (or McLuvinJ, as some of you may know her as) about the Team Jake crapfic I've been reading. I've been feeling lately like I've read everything that's good when it comes to Jake. I'm sure that's not true, but when compared to the amazing amounts of quality Edward fic out there it sometimes feels true. There's maybe 1 good Jake fic per 100 good Edward fics. Let the howling begin. I can take it. I'll change you into a vampire with my venomy fangs and then imprint on you so you have to stay with me forever. Mwahaha! Gotta love some Team Switzerland bad humor. Moving on . . . so, she started giving me recs. I was leery. I love LuvinJ but sometimes our tastes are different, or rather, she's more forgiving of authors than I am. I want a good story and I want it really well written. But that's not the point, though now that I think about it I find that interesting, and I'll clarify that later. My head's not on right today and I'm babbling. Sorry.

One of the recs she sent me was this short story called A Week in the Life of Jacob Black. I thought, oh that'd be funny. I thought perhaps it would be like Freaky Mistletoe where I spent a whole chapter following Jake around aimlessly. People like it. Go figure. I like it too. I thought that's what I was going to get. Boy was I wrong. This fic is heartbreaking and so interesting. I'm not sure that Ive ever cried so much in a fic before. I felt like the biggest loser, but as I perused some of the reviews (Yeah, I do that. So what?) I realized that I wasn't the only one. Stacey218 has a way with words. She doesn't overdo anything either. Her words are clear and concise but heartfelt and tear producing.

A Week in the Life of Jacob Black chronicles his life from the end of Eclipse to roughly 2028. Each chapter, barring the prologue and epilogue, encompasses a lot of time in some cases and only one day in others, but each reveals something important that happened to Jacob on one day of the week in particular. Each chapter ends so well. I felt a sense of satisfaction at the end of every chapter because of the repetition and the reveal. It was beautifully done.

We follow Jacob as he pines for Bella, gets Bella, and then discovers that Bella has a terminal illness. Now before you scream, "La la la, I can't hear you!" just know that this is what the most of the story is about so there's really no surprises. The story is told solely from Jake's POV and is beautifully done. Not many authors channel Jake the way that I see him, but this author does. He's loving and kind and forgiving and funny and selfish (a bit) and he gets angry and jealous and he's so so real. I love this author's take on him. There are a few scenes that I particularly love that I will post below to entice you.

This story has everything a story needs - romance, action, angst, kissing, humor, sadness, and most importantly, lots of Jake. And while I certainly love Jake, I must also say that this author writes every character well. All of them. The fact that Jared, a generally overlooked character, has distinct personality characteristics even though we only see him three times is this story is a testament to this author's dedication to this story. She knows her characters, and they are believable. And when they aren't the author is honest and humble about it- admitting that she knows nothing about Bella's illness and nothing about children, though she writes both beautifully with very little error.

I mentioned earlier about my need for technically well written stories and the funny thing is that this story has flaws. The author is new, she doesn't have a beta, she's self-edited, so there are mistakes. But I don't care. Not one bit. The story is that freaking good. Go read it and leave her some love. It just finished earlier this month and looks sad and lonely.

Team Edward . . . no.

And now some excepts from Stacey218's work of art . . . I really want to show her range, so there's a lot here. And, fair warning, this first excerpt contains oodles of spoilers, but I loved these scenes so much I had to share them . . .

From Chapter 5: Bella has just been told how long she has to live.

I felt a sudden surge of anger at myself. I wouldn't let myself forget, how could I even think such a thing? I couldn't sit still any more and I jumped up from the swing, removing my hands from my eyes. I ignored the fact that they were wet, wiping them on my jeans. Ten months, twenty four years old. I stalked back and forth across the schools concrete play ground, pulling my hands through my hair. I felt like screaming, I felt like destroying something. I swung my fist out as I passed the playground's metal slide. I felt my knuckle crack and stared in dissatisfaction at the fist shaped indent.

Something in me snapped. I couldn't remember ever being so filled with rage since the time I first phased. My body trembled and I slammed my fist into the metal slide again, ignoring the pain shooting up my hand. It wasn't fair! Why did this have to happen to us? Why her and not me instead? Ten months, twenty four years old.

I beat at the pulverized metal, ignoring the shrieking sound it was making. I didn't care that someone would find the slide, destroyed with hand shaped gouges in it. I didn't care that I was dangerously close to phasing less than a stones throw away from a party of intoxicated teenagers. All I cared about was the fact that I was losing one of the most important people in my life and I was powerless to stop it.

I became aware of people cursing and a loud smashing noise. I stopped my assault on the playground equipment and glanced over my shoulder, toward First beach. Some kids from the party were on the far side of the street now. Someone had dropped a glass bottle, shattering it, and the others were laughing at them. One of the kids in the group saw me and called out.

"Hey! School's closed you know!" the drunken voice slurred. The group laughed. I turned away from them, taking a few seconds to pop one of my broken fingers back into place with a snap. I heard footfalls and someone scramble over the low brick wall. Girls were laughing; someone called someone else a bitch. Please just leave me alone, I thought knowing I was too wound up to even try to act calmly.

"Hey, buddy! School is finished!" the voice was closer now. I turned around flexing my hand. It was completely healed now just with a small lingering pain in the joints. A young guy staggered toward me, he looked like he was only about sixteen and vaguely familiar. As he got closer I realized why. It was Colin's younger brother but I couldn't recall his name. I turned away from him striding off toward the tree line.

"Hey come back!" Colin's brother yelled out. I felt a hand on my arm but I shook it off.

"Piss off," I growled at him. I didn't want to deal with them just now. I wanted Bella. Ten months, twenty four years old. I felt like I was going to phase at any second and my hands shook. I took a deep breath. I hadn't felt this out of control since I was sixteen.

"We are having a party you should come hang out!" the kid was way too happy and way too drunk to hear the anger in my voice.

"No," I spat at him, lengthening my strides. I was only a few hundred yards from the trees. Just hold on until then. Ten months, twenty four years old.

"Hey just chill man. It's gonna be fun. We got lots of girls and drinks," he panted, taking three steps to match my one. This kid was killing me. I spun on my heel to face him.

"I said no. Back off kid," I threatened. The kid blanched for a second before holding up his hands. He laughed at me and I glanced over his shoulder. His friends were climbing over the wall now, stumbling toward us.

"Hey that's cool. If you wanna be a chicken shit I'm not gonna stop you," Colin's brother said with a laugh. I know I shouldn't have risen to the bait but I couldn't help it. I was still on edge, still thrumming with an all consuming rage. Ten months, twenty four years old.

"What did you call me?" I ground out, clenching my fists.

"You heard me I said you're a chicken shit." The kid taunted. I found myself not caring again. Not caring that this guy was only sixteen and I outweighed him by more than a hundred pounds. Not caring that he was a weak human and I was supernaturally strong. I didn't give a shit what the consequences were as I pulled back my fist and snapped it back into his smug, arrogant face. He dropped to the floor, blood streaming out his nose, his skull bashing against the concrete. I heard a female scream. I didn't care. Ten months, twenty four years old.

The kid was groaning on the floor when the girl that had screamed came running up dropping to her knees next to him. I stumbled backwards. Someone had a cell phone out calling 911. I knew I should leave but I stared down at my hand with the kid's blood smeared over my knuckles. Shit, what had I just done? Shit!

"Why the hell would you punch him?" a voice screamed at me. I looked down and the girl who had run over to Colin's brother had propped his head into her lap and was glaring at me. I couldn't answer her. The whole group was here now. A guy was yelling at me but I couldn't make sense of the words. Hands shoved at me but didn't move me, they couldn't move me. Colin's brother's eyes were closed but I could see that he was still breathing. The strong sound of his heart told me he was only unconscious and that I hadn't accidentally killed an innocent teenager. Red and blue lights flashed in the distance and I knew I should run for it but my feet wouldn't move.

I felt separated from my body as two cops strode across the school playground toward us, paramedics rushing to the kid on the floor. I didn't wake up again until I felt the cold snap of handcuffs. I was in so much shit.

"Promise me you will talk to someone about this. It doesn't have to be a doctor or therapy group. It can just be me or your dad. Anyone. But Jake you have to deal with this, you have to talk about it," she demanded gently. My fingers stilled on her neck.

"Would that make you happy?" I asked.

"Yes," she said simply. I thought about it for a moment. I only had so much time left with her and I wanted her to be happy for as much of it as possible. I could sacrifice my pride for that couldn't I? I wanted her to be happy, I always wanted that. As long as I could remember I had loved this woman in front of me. An idea dawned on me and I couldn't help but to grin at her.

"Ok but I have my own condition" I stipulated.

"What is it?" she asked innocently. I lent down and kissed her cheek. I made my way along her face, kissing every inch of skin I could.

"Marry me," I whispered in her ear. I heard her sharp intake of breath and smiled against her hair.

"What?" she asked breathlessly, her hands fisting my shirt. I pulled back and grinned down at her.

"I said marry me. It's hard for me to ask for help you know that, so I should get a reward for it. I think marriage is an acceptable reward don't you?" I teased gently.

"Are you serious?"

"Deadly serious Bells. You mean the world to me. I always knew I would marry you even when I was little."

"Really?" she asked with a small smile.

"Yeah I told my mom about it and everything. She used to tease me about it," I admitted feeling my face flush a little. She chuckled at that.

"So what'll it be? I know you like romantic stories and stuff so do I have to get on one knee or something?" I joked. She giggled and shook her head at me.

"Yeah because this is so romantic, a proposal in jail!" she scoffed

"Hey it's original! Marry me Bella," I said again. Bella sighed and smiled at me. Then she said one word that made me feel whole and happy for the first time in eight months

"Ok."

From Chapter 6: A bit from their honeymoon . . .

I glared at the grey sky out of the window. It was our last day of our honeymoon and we were supposed to go to the beach but instead we had woken up to pouring rain. Bells had shrugged it off and we had lain in bed all day watching movies, making out and eating room service. But I was still annoyed we hadn't been able to go because I knew Bella had been looking forward to it. Plus I was missing out on perving on her in a bikini. Instead I was being forced to watch Batman and Robin.

"Batman is so hot," Bella giggled staring at the TV screen. I watched George Clooney sucker punch some bad guys and I frowned at her.

"I didn't know you were into latex Bells," I joked "Should I be worried?"

"I'm not into latex," Bella mumbled, flushing a bright red. I chuckled at her and grabbed another handful of popcorn shoving it into my mouth in one go.

"I dunno. I bet if he wasn't wearing that suit you wouldn't be all gaga over him," I teased her with my mouth full.

"Oh come on its George Clooney. He is always hot latex or not," Bella laughed, gesturing at the screen as Batman and Robin ran around on screen in their ridiculously tight superhero outfits.

"George Clooney is like fifty or something. How is that attractive?" I scoffed as Clooney jumped from rooftop to rooftop. I could so do that in real life, Clooney would just splatter all over the pavement.

"He's like a fine wine. He gets better with age," Bella sighed. I raised my eyebrows at her in disbelief and she grinned at me sheepishly.

"That's not something you're supposed to tell me Bells! Ugh I'm having mental images of you with a wrinkly old man," I moaned, reaching up and pretending to claw my eyes out. Bella sat up on the bed cross legged and managed to look suspicious and pleased all in one go.

"Oh what are you jealous?" she asked, running her fingers up my fore arm.

"No!" I protested much more loudly than I probably should of.

"Oh my god you are jealous!" Bella laughed clapping a hand across her mouth and dissolving into a fit of hysterics.

"Why would I be jealous of a movie star?" I grumbled, glaring at the screen again. This was all Clooney's fault. Those abs so weren't real, I could totally take that guy down. Bella composed herself and reached out grabbing my hand.

"You're so cute," she whispered grinning at me. I turned away from the screen as Bella kissed my hand. She was lying on her side now completely ignoring the TV. She was wearing one of my shirts again and a pair of sweat pants and even in that she looked amazing.

"So are you," I told her and she smiled awkwardly. She scooted closer to me and I kissed her forehead. She wrapped a slim arm over my waist; her finger's working their way under my shirt, tickling my side. I kissed her hair, taking in her wonderful scent. I was just about to suggest that we turn off the movie so I could show her just how much better I was than Clooney when she opened her mouth.

"Do we have anything left to drink?" she asked, looking up at me from the crook of my shoulder. I reached over to the bedside and only found empty glasses.

"I'll go get something," I sighed, untangling myself from her.

The Invitation

Cloudcandace, also known as Wordslinger, is hosting a contest. Did you know? You can find out more about it here http://www.fanfiction.net/u/2922402/Just_a_Kiss_Contest.

Here's a sample of a oneshot that I wrote for the contest. I'm hoping to post it soon, just need to get a beta on board first.

The Invitation by Purelyamuse

Summary: Instead of running away after getting the wedding invitation, Jacob confronts Bella about it. In a heartbreaking moment the truth of his feelings come out, and he extends an invitation of his own. Jacob/Bella.

I howl my warning as I cross the last stretch of trees and phase just as I hit the edge of the woods, walking the rest of the way, completely naked and too pissed off to care.

“Bella!” I shout from below her window, clutching the invitation in my hand. I hear a scuffle, and a curtain moves. “I’m coming up!” Without preamble I leap into her tree and make quick work of the branches. The window lifts, and there’s a sudden gasp behind it. “Move,” I command, then quickly jump into the room. I land in a crouch, then stand to full height.

The little one with the black hair is looking me straight in the eye. She’s glaring. “Get out!” I huff, my jaw clenching with my rage.

“I’m not leaving Bella here with you.”

“You won’t have a choice when I rip your head from your body. Now. Get. Out!”

The little one turns to Bella, who looks flushed and is holding onto her belly, her pale hand grasping bright white satin. I narrow my eyes as I realize she’s wearing her wedding dress. Perfect. I bare my teeth and growl on instinct, unable to control myself.

“I’ll stay if you want me to stay.”

“Tell her to get out, or I’m gonna drop kick her head from the window and send her limbs soaring after it.”

“You don’t have to be so-“

“Get the hell out! Now!” I lunge towards her, and she moves quick but not quick enough. I’ve got her by the arm. It’s tweaked against her back, and I know if I twist it just so it’ll pop out, and I can send it out the window. This wolf stuff is so easy when you don’t fight it.

“Ow, geez, Jake, you-“

“Alice, get out,” says Bella, her voice quiet, frail and sad.

Cold Nights, Warm Bed

There's a contest on Jacob Black N Pack. Did you know? It's the Summer in La Push challenge. I'm writing a one-shot for it. Here's a sneak peek for your viewing pleasure!

Cold Nights, Warm Bed by Purelyamuse

Summary: O/S written for the Summer in La Push contest on JBNP. Bella goes backpacking with Jake and Quembry. After falling in the ocean and getting all of her stuff wet, she finds herself in the oddest place possible - sandwiched between three werewolves. J/B, 3rd POV, Rated T.5.

Jacob and Bella chat for a minute about their families and their plans for the rest of the summer. Her speech gets slurred after a while, so Jacob stops asking her questions. Just as soon as she’s asleep, she jerks herself awake complaining lowly, “Ow! Ow! Ow! Cramp! Oh, geez, cramp!”

Jacob’s arms let go of her immediately, and he looks over Bella as she shakes out her long legs, the large shirt billowing around her. He tries to avert his eyes but can’t quite seem to. He’s memorized by her bare skin.

She’s massaging her right thigh with her tiny hand, and it doesn’t seem to be doing any good. The pain is excruciating, and the cold air is not helping at all. Without thinking about it, she grabs Jacob’s right hand and presses it down on her thigh, wrapping his fingers around the outside of it. He rolls his fingers into her skin on instinct, massaging her muscles. “Oh, geez! Yes, right there! Can you feel it? It’s spasming! Ah, yes! Right there!”

“Get a room!” comes a shout from the other tent.

Jacob and Bella halt their massaging hands, and they slump into each other in laughter. “Oh my goodness. What is he thinking? He thinks we’re . . . Oh gah!” Bella explodes into peals of laughter again, and Jacob covers his own mouth trying not to wake up every living thing around him.

They hear angry feet shuffling their way. “What’s so damn funny? I’m trying to sleep,” says Embry, unzipping the tent without asking permission.

He gapes at Bella’s bare legs and tilts his head back a bit. “Dude, don’t you knock?” says Jacob, grabbing Bella’s legs and swinging them to the side, covering them with his large hands. Bella peeks up to see Embry’s smug ‘I saw that’ expression.

“You okay? Now that Jake’s taken care of . . . uh, your little problem.”

“I had a leg cramp. Don’t be disgusting,” says Bella defensively.

Jacob completely ignores Embry and addresses Bella. “You want to lie down? I can wrap around you or something. I dunno. I’m just afraid you’ll get another cramp if you stay all balled up again.”

“Um, I don’t, uh, think that’s a good idea,” says Bella, taking in both of the guys’ expressions of longing.

“I’ll be right back,” says Embry.

Not a minute later Embry returns with a pair of warm boxers in hand. He zips up the tent behind him and hands them over to Bella. She sneaks under her sleeping bag and puts them on. “Are these, uh-“

“Don’t ask. Scoot over.”

“Um,” says Bella, looking to Jacob for some help. He shrugs.

“Look, I’ll sleep on this side, and Jake can sleep on that side. That way you’ll stay warm no matter what.”

“Oh, okay,” says Bella, trying not to freak out as Jacob spoons her and Embry snuggles into her neck, wrapping his arms around her back.

She quickly forgets about how weird this is because she’s delightfully warm and comfortable. She inhales long and slow, and in her tiredness blurts out, “You smell good.”

A low growl sounds behind her, and Jacob squeezes her waist and pulls her body taut to his.

“I’m sure you smell good, too, Jake.”

“He smells great. Like a petunia. Especially when he farts.” Bella can’t help it and shakes with silent laughter.

“You shut up,” says Jacob, smacking at one of Embry’s arms. It causes him to lose grip on Bella’s back, and he grazes her breast before righting his arms. She squeaks at the contact, but it’s soon forgotten as they all hear a very loud, “What the hell? Where is everybody? Why am I naked!”

What Music They Make

What Music They Make by CatsOnMars
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4000781/1/What_Music_They_Make
When an unexpected conflict with the Volturi brings Jacob back into her life, Bella finds that being a vampire only makes it even more complicated for her to be in love with two people. J/B and E/B. Please review.

Bella and Edward are happily married, living the vampire life when Aro pays a visit and suggests a werewolf genocide. Say what? Hell yes. Enter Jake, the now alpha, and his crew to work with the Cullens. This is the first time Jake has been around Bella since she was married and it's awkward especially since . . . wait for it . . . he's her singer. Say what? Hell yes. She's drawn to him. She wants to eat him, literally. She's also still attracted to him and in love with him but happily married to Edward and in love with him too. I know! The tension is the fic is astounding.

Jake has a life. He's relatively happy, dating a girl from work, Lilah (who is very cool by the way), and living his life. But now that Bella's back adn they're forced to work together the ust rises. Jake and Bella deal with their desire for one another while Edward plays the role of the ever-forgiving, ever loving supportive husband. I love this. The author has somehow managed to make everyone completely in character. There's a lot of drama, action, and angst. Where SM failed to deliver on a battle, CatsOnMars pulls through for us. Where SM failed to give Jake a good ending that didn't make us say, "What they hell? Now he's a pedophile and he lusted after his future wife's mother? EW!" she delivers.

Remember how Bella forgave Edward of everything when he came back in New Moon? Remember how Jacob told Bella he loved her and then she told him the same but they never really discussed it? Remember how those bits of canon drove you insane and you never got any closure on them? Well, this fic gives you closeure. Edward and Bella have it out. Jake and Bella have it out. And it makes sense. This fic does what SM chose not to do and what you wanted her to do.

While this is a very clean fic language and sex wise, it is still full of passion and longing and will make your heart ache.

Team Switzerland powerhouse. Team Jake and Team Edward safe, though fair warning - Jake does not get the girl.

This story is the first true Team Switzerland story I've read, though it's marked as Jake/Bella which I find interesting because they never actually get together. So, fair warning to the Jake fans who want him to have Bella in the end. Sorry, it doesn't happen and the marked J/B is a bit misleading in my opinion.

A bit to persuade you . . .

Bella is going to give herself over to the Volturi to spare the werewolves a terrible demise. Jake and Bella have it out, and the bracelet mentioned in this excerpt is the bracelet.

Jacob sighed heavily. "Look, Bella," he started in a harsh tone. "This is ridiculous. You know it is. You've got to let me take care of myself. All of us. You know, some of the others don't even think they want your help anymore. They're getting tired of their fates being planned between you and the Volturi behind our backs like this."

"Are they crazy?" she asked with shock.

"Well, whether you like it or not there's going to be a little more tension between us and your family now. And this little truce we've called has been nice while it's lasted. But the treaty is still between enemies. We may be fighting next to each other, but we're not supposed to care what happens to each other. We're not supposed to suffer for each other. Just worry about yourself and your own and stop trying to protect a bunch of dogs."

She started to look deeply saddened as she realized what he was trying to say. "We're not enemies, Jacob," she said quietly.

"Yes, we are!" he said loudly, trying to pound in something he knew was probably impossible to make her see; he stepped closer to her so he was almost yelling in her face. "Maybe we can get along peacefully, but whether you like it or not, we are! You made a choice! You chose to become this!" As if to demonstrate what he meant he took her face and held it firmly, feeling the chill of her skin on his palms, and he looked like this disturbed him more than he had ever let it show that it did before as he stared right into her topaz eyes. "You can't change your mind and have it both ways, Bella! So quit trying."

As he let go of her, she shook her head denyingly. "But I can't just let go of who I was before. How can I just stop caring? How could I stand it if you died because of all this when I could have stopped it?"

"I don't know," he said bitterly. "I suppose the same way you plan on dealing with it at whatever time I happen to die, since I'm obviously going to be doing it while you're still around."

"But it's not supposed to be now!"

"Bella, you can't have me!" he said firmly, leaning in to peer close at her again. Instead of still angry, he sounded pained and regretful now, hating to have to say it. "Not as your friend, not in any way anymore! You have to let me go, even if it means accepting that I'll have to die!"

"No," she said unwillingly in a soft gasp.

"You've got a whole family who don't want to lose you and a husband who you're going to drag along with you into whatever fate you choose. You gave up so much and hurt so many people to have this life, so just live and be happy with him and forget about me."

"Oh, fine," she said with sudden anger, sounding terribly stung even as she shouted it. She reached for the bracelet on her wrist as if she was ready to tear it off. This seemed to momentarily throw off his guard and she could not miss the change in his eyes as she reached for it, looking so hurt for a second as if she had just touched a wounded, sensitive part of him even as they were standing feet apart from each other. But his face went right back to looking more invulnerable and he did not say anything as she took it off.

"I suppose all your promises are worth nothing," she said angrily, holding it out to him like it was something contemptible he was responsible for. "Take this back if you can't be my friend anymore. If you really mean everything you just said."

He just looked at it with a slightly shocked expression, not moving. "I don't want it," he said quietly, looking a little like he was scared to go near it.

Looking almost furious because of how she suddenly moved so fast, she turned around like someone would move to face somebody they were about to shout at or slap, walking out to the edge of the cliff. Then she quickly flung the bracelet over it, where it was visible to him shining in the moonlight in midair for just a split second before it disappeared in the dark, falling into the black sea below.

They both watched it and then stared down in the direction it had fallen for what felt like a very long time, seeming to slowly calm down and realize what exactly had just happened, register what it meant. When she finally looked away first, facing him again, he met eyes with her and appeared to be filled with a sudden unbearable sadness.

"That's not going to make any difference, is it?" he asked quietly.

She looked back at him with the same sadness, not having to answer. He could see that nothing was bending her. He did not know what to do anymore.

They stared at each other for a long time with no sound around them but the waves crashing up strongly against the rock. It felt like something was being emptied out of them in this moment, as much as it could be. They both realized that this could be it. If she decided to go, this could be the last they ever saw of each other. Bella's hands at her sides took hold of the fabric of her dress where the wind was softly blowing it against her legs, as she had in the car, but not for the same reason. Her posture became a little rigid, like it was taking so much effort to stay standing.

"Goodbye, Jacob," she said weakly, the words coming out with so much reluctance that it was only said in a very soft breath.

Jake Reviews on the Run

I've not read a lot lately as I'm loving on Babymuse, but what I have read that cannot be forgotten will be posted here with very brief/lame notes. Please bear with me. I wouldn't even bother posting them if they weren't that good. Trust me.

The Last Sleep by Ninety6tears
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5687103/1/The_Last_Sleep
Summary: When Bella's future is abruptly altered by brutal circumstances, she seeks comfort in an impossible balance between her life with Edward and a restrained relationship with Jacob.

Bella is turned vamp in a terrible situation not involving the Cullens. She continues her life with the Cullens as a vamp though she is not herself. She is depressed, forlorn and broken, living a life she didn't get to choose. Jacob is in and out of her life and ultimately frees her from her purgatory. How so? You'll just have to read.

This piece is hauntingly beautiful with vivid imagery and a sweetness that is sad all at the same time.

Team Edward safe (imo).

The Two Hundred and Seven Days After by Monroeslittle
http://monroeslittle.livejournal.com/11193.html
Summary: Jacob imprints. This is the aftermath.

Bella and Jacob are in a relationship and he imprints. Bella leaves him to it though she is devastated. In classic Jake fashion he does not want to give up on his relationship with Bella. He pounds on her door, and sleeps outside her window, and generally hounds her until she gives in to talk to him . . . only she forces him to go, to live his own life with her.

The awesome thing about this fic is that it's in Bella's POV and we see her devastation but still get the sense of how real the imprint is without having to hate Jake for it by being in his head. That was a terribly written sentence. Moving on. We see through Bella's eyes how difficult the situation is for both of them. And it is difficult, painful. Do not read this story is you are depressed, it will make things worse. This story has major heartfail at times in the best way possible and had me crying real tears. That does not happen often people.

This story will have you crying, hoping, loving, enjoying, and many other 'ings' I can't think of. Really well written. A must read for Jake/Bella fans.

Team Edward is a no go.

The Golden Phase of Dying Leave by CatsonMars
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5515430/1/The_Golden_Phase_of_Dying_Leaves
Summary: When Bella returns from Italy after failing to save Edward, Jacob isn't sure if he can do anything to pull her out of her state of numbness this time.

Jake is desperate to get Bella to eat, talk, join the living but cannot seem to help her, so he just waits is out, letting her wallow next to him. In a moment of high stakes, Bella realizes that she does want to live, does want to be human again all because of Jake and his loving persistence.

A beautifully written short tale of the return of Bella to the living. A nicely romantic piece without the dirty deets of the deed.

Team Edward is a bad idea.

Five Times Bella Swan Did Not Kiss Jacob Black by CatsonMars
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4685436/1/Five_Times_Bella_Swan_Did_Not_Kiss_Jacob_Black
Summary: He will always remember how on the night she came back to him, he saw a shooting star. Five Jacob/Bella drabbles starting in the time of New Moon and ending as post-Eclipse AU.

A short story in six parts told in a drabble-y fashion. How's that for a review? I said they'd be lame. This brief tale, told in snippets, spans NM pre-fursplosion to post wedding(J/B), then back again to NM post-fursplosion. You'd think with the small amount of words this author used that she wouldn't've been able to say much, but she did, she does and so you should read it. She captures Jake in his sweet innocence in a way I haven't seen before.

CatsonMars is brilliant. I would compare her drabbles and one shots to those of blueandblack. I can't seem to get enough. I'm excited to read her multi-chaptered fics. If you've read them drop me a comment or email and tell me about them.

Where Do We Go Now But Nowhere? by Unseemingowl
http://unseemingowl.livejournal.com/1601.html
Summary: They've both been left behind, their lives put on hold in rain soaked Forks, but they have a few things in common apart from being angry and lonely.
Don't go running and screaming just yet. I thought my twitter peeps were crazy when they suggested I read a Jacob/Jessica fic. I was like hell no, it'd be dumb, yo. But it wasn't; I was. This short fic works. Jake and Jessica work. It makes sense and I believed it.

Jake and Jessica bond over their pathetic lives after Bella leaves with her sparkly man. They become friends and enjoy each other's company because it makes them not lonely to be together. Being a part of Jessica's sad life in Forks is something that keeps Jake going. He's able to vent, go hog wild at the driving range (a very powerful scene), and sow his oats out of need to just be out of control to do something wrong, it seems. But Jessica is game; she wants it too. But what happens when Bella shows up in Forks again, unsparkly, and looking for Jake? Happy ending or not? that depends. Are you Team Jessica? Or Team Bella?

There would be something wrong with me if I didn't give credit to MeraNaamJoker and Audreyii_fic for these recs. Most of them came from them. I have even taken to calling Audrey my Indi-Fic Guru. She knows every well written, stunning Jake piece out there. Thanks ladies! And thanks for keeping me company on Twitter while I nurse Babymuse.

Better Now

Better Now by MeraNaamJoker
Summary: Charlie got Bella the professional help she needed when Edward took off. Now Edward's back, and she's different. AU New Moon - after Volterra- and Eclipse. M for language & a few later lemons. Mostly in-character, Edward's not villainized.

I found this fic on Phase Fics under their teaser's section. I had also seen this author rec'd somewhere else, I can't remember now, but the summary pulled me in. The idea of a more mentally stable Bella sounded interesting to me and I was in the mood for some canon Jake. And boy does MeraNaamJoker deliver - on the canon and the Jake.
Bella has grown in this story, she sticks up for herself with Jake and Edward (yes, he's in it too, but more as a side character). It's good to hear Bella assert herself against Edward, and because she's actually been in therapy, it's believable. I get really upset when an author claims canon and then Bella screams and yells at Edward calling him all kinds of names using words she would never use. I'm sorry, but that's just not canon Bella. You have to prove to me why she would do that, or I'm not going to buy it. This time, I did.

The main plot of the story is canon - getting Victoria and fighting off the vampire army, but it also follows Jake and Bella's relationship. It is written in Bella's POV.

This Bella is so sweet, charming and innocent but with a healthy sexual curiosity. She is genuinely caring and not annoying. Some of her internal dialogue had me giggling so hard I thought I'd wake up the sleeping hubs. This line in particular had me in stitches.

I wanted to understand; I definitely didn't want Quil, who'd always been nice to me, to be a pedophile.

Although the POV is Bella's throughout the story, Jake has such a distinct voice. The Jake the author has written is a true teenage boy. The author has a knack for realistic teenage dialogue and I love it. Jake's dialogue is simplistic but so fitting because - he's a boy!

Bella and Jake have a very realistic relationship. They argue, and play, and make out (seriously best first make out ever; should win a make out lemon award), and talk. Their conversations are always interesting and help move the plot along. This author is not wordy like me - we all I know my Jake talks way too much. :)

I love the author's version of an angry Jake, especially when he's pissed about Bella saying negative things about herself. It's hot. The line below in particular had me laughing and totally feeling what Jake was saying. I want to jump him because he's so sarcastic and honest and forces her to believe in herself. I just love it.

"Do you think I just spent however many months of my life trying to win you over because I thought you'd make a hella good mirror for my awesome?"

And poor, sad Edward. We all know I'm Switzerland and I loved the author's portrayal of Edward. The fascinating thing is that he's rarely actually in the fic. He's only spoken about by other characters, but that - his absence - speaks volumes. I felt him in the background, thus constantly feeling Bella's guilty conscience. It provided an angst hum that I enjoyed. The author's stance on Edward taking the breakup is much like my own, so if you liked my story (or at least how I treated Edward), you'll like this one.

While the author focuses on Jake and Bella's relationship, she gives the reader bits and pieces of pack life that are so fascinating and sometimes gut wrenching. We get a glimpse Quil's agony over imprinting with a 2 year old, and we get a slice of Jake and Billy's relationship that makes the reader want to cuddle Jake.

The only non-canon factor that I questioned was Jake's virginity. In this story, he's already cashed in his v-card (but this is not a slut Jake, thank you!). Generally that upsets me, but since we didn't hear anything about Jake's experience with girls until Eclipse, and this is a re-write of Eclipse, I bought it. Hell, I'd buy anything from this author. In fact she's selling a Bella/Paul imprint right now which I am buying and gobbling up. That review's up next!

Until I write it or update my own story, giving you something else to read, go read Better Now. It's worth your time, and you all know how picky I am. Enjoy!

Forks in the Road

Forks in the Road by sowrong
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5585887/1/Forks_in_the_Road
After the fight and her kiss with Jacob, Bella realizes that she is in love with both Edward and Jacob. She flees Forks in an attempt to prevent herself from choosing either one. Four years later she returns to Forks to finally face those she left behind.
Forks in the Road by sowrong is sort of the antithesis of my story in some ways. I think those that struggled with my story because they thought Jake was too soft, or he wasn't fierce enough as an alpha will love this story.

The premise is very similar to mine – Bella loves both Edward and Jacob. She deals with the stress of imprinting and the stress of the Volturi. The characters are older in this story though and Jake is rough around the edges. He is tough and the author keeps him consistently so. Bella has also grown quite a bit and tends to hold her own often. Edward is in the background and the author did not treat him like trash which I appreciate since I am Team Switzerland.

This author gives Colin and Brady (and the rest of the pack) very specific personalities. The pack itself has a distinct personality that is fun to read about. The author introduces more female wolves. It's awesome. They add hair bows to their fur and then sexually harass the boys. It had me in stitches laughing. this author has an interesting take on imprinting. It's very smart.

I loved the high angst that the Volturi provided. The author just went for the battle and totally made it work. I followed the whole fight and was caught up in its many locations.

In its entirety the story is well written, funny, original, exciting, and kept me engaged throughout.

Breakdown and This Is The Night

Breakdown by walkingaftermidnight
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5186182/1/Breakdown
Summary: Nothing could ruin my high knowing that her tires had been pointed in my direction when she'd suddenly become stranded halfway down the 110. I was her support system, her breath of fresh air, her light at the end of the tunnel. Jake/Bella. Oneshot. ANGST!

This Is The Night by walkingaftermidnight
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5699243/1/This_Is_The_Night
Summary: The night provides an escape for Bella, but it also brings uncertainty. It's a good thing she isn't afraid of the dark. Oneshot written for the JacobxBella Big Bang and broken down into two parts. Sequel to my other long oneshot: Breakdown.

One of the best oneshots and Jacob POV fics I've read. It's completely believable that Jake would say and think the things that are written in this fic. I particularly love Breakdown. The author is very clever in her writing, keeping you captivated from beginning to end and hitting you hard with the point of the story as she rips your guts out. It's pretty awesome.

Both of these are one shots, but long enough that they tell a really good story.

Team Edward is a no go.

Audreyii-fic

I've already mentioned The Definition of Want which is one of my favorite Jacob fics. These two pieces are written by the same author, Audreyii-fic, and they are both wonderful

Five Days and Three Feet of Snow by audreyii-fic
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6218791/26/

This is actually a part of a series of drabbles, but it's a stand alone. Bella and Jacob get stranded in his house during a snow storm and try to keep each other from being bored. They start out playing games and frolicking in the snow but suddenly find themselves doing "other things." The humor in this fic is to die for. It's so realistic. The piece is written in a very unique fashion as well - done daily. I really admire this author and highly rec this fic. It's a really quick read too.

The Movement of the Earth
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6297728/1/The_Movement_of_the_Earth
Jacob imprints on Bella. It changes things. A re-write of New Moon, beginning on page 242 in Chapter 10: "The Meadow."

This fic is really interesting. Audrey attempted, and succeeded in my opinion, to write in a Stephenie Meyer fashion. She carried the story from a certain point in the books and explored what could have happened. It's a very feasible plot line as Jacob and Bella try to fight their imprint, both not really wanting it but still falling for each other and feeling bonded. This story is very clean too. My only complaint...it ended too soon. Lucky for us, the author is working on a sequel now. Hooray!

Body Chemistry

Body Chemistry by Aspirations of Whimsy
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6132304/1/Body_Chemistry
Summary: AH- A soft hum acknowledges how much he loves your hands on him. It's time for you to let him go again though. *Angst but with a happy ending* 2nd person, present tense

Author herself said she's deleting this soon, so read it now!

This story is heartbreaking. Bella falls in love with Edward, but has always had great chemistry with her best friend, Jacob. She sees him over the years and comes to terms that their chemistry is more than that - though Edward is good to her and she can't seem to find a way out. In the meantime, Jacob finds love elsewhere. That's when the real story begins...

The back and forth between Jacob and Bella is so uncomfortable to read. They are so desperate for each other but never say the words and never act on their feelings. Finally things in life align and somehow don't turn out as hoped.

This fic will make you cry, scream, pull your hair out, pant (seriously one of the most beautifully written love scenes I have ever read, EVER!), drool, and jump for joy. It is a interesting read as it's written in second person. It's the only one I've seen in this fandom. You will love this story.

Team Edward and Team Jacob safe.

Spindle Tree

Spindle Tree by MintEnergy
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6192733/1/Spindle_Tree
Summary: A Breaking Dawn alternative that acknowledges canon, Twilight thru Eclipse. Inspired by the life of someone she loves, Bella ultimately makes the difficult choices that will lead her to the life she herself was originally meant to live. Bella/Jacob POV's

When Bella learns that a loved one is ill, her perspective on life (and thus Edward) slowly begins to change. Jacob, the ever present best friend, helps her in her time of need in ways that Edward can't. Slowly her feelings change for the two men in her life and she finds herself at a crossroads and ultimately makes a difficult decision that changes the course of her life.

While this story doesn't have a lot of humor in it, it is still humorous. The relationships created in this story are real and beautiful to read about.

This fiction is beautifully written and so clean. It has minor cursing and insinuated sexuality but it is tame enough for your mother (okay my mother, who is the biggest prude I know. To this day, she cringes when I say fart. Yeah, I know.), or 14 year old niece to read.

This story is safe for Team Edward.

This story has one of my most favorite Jacob quotes. It's amazing, I wish I had written it. I know you will love it too.

"If he hurts you. If he leaves. If you change your mind," his hands shifted on my shoulders as if willing me to understand, "I don't care how much time has passed. I don't care what you are, or where I am." He shifted closer, head lowered a little to meet my gaze, "You come and find me, do you understand?" He shook me gently, "Just come and find me."

The Definition of Want

The Definition of Want by CarrieICL
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6049244/1/The_Definition_of_Want
Summary: You know how Edward offered to let Bella and Jacob make puppies? And we all secretly wondered how that would go? Yeah. It's one of those. J/B. Set post-Eclipse.

This story follows the sentiment that Edward is offering Bella up to Jacob to make babies. Crazy, I know. This story is so well written and all from Jacob's POV (which is spot on). It's a quick read, about ten chaps or so, and soooo good. I would liken this story to The Return of Bad Jacob. I could read it again and again and again!

Team Edward safe as he's written respectfully in the story.

I Can Feel Our Hearts Beating as One and Will You Still Love me in December?

I Can Feel Our Hearts Beating as One and Will You Still Love me in December? by Kathy-rindhoops
No longer online... but if she ever reposts, read it!

These are two short stories that are post-Breaking Dawn. In I Can Feel Our Hearts Beating as One Bella meets up with Jacob in San Francisco thirteen years after marrying Edward. They hadn't seen each other since and the conversation between the two is very eye opening as is their day together. In Will You Still Love me in December Bella meets up with Jacob again when she returns to Forks for Chrirstmas. There is some really amazing writing here and so much push and pull from the two characters. I warn you if you read these, have tissues nearby. Just heartbreaking for the two. These two companion stories are the best post-Breaking Dawn stroies I have ever read. You will not be disappointed.

Team Edward safe.

Then Direct You Into My Arms

Then Direct You Into My Arms by BlueandBlack
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4373336/1/Then_Direct_You_Into_My_Arms
Summary: Set during New Moon. Bella, Jacob, Victoria and the pack. There will be Edward later, but not as a result of cliff-diving and Tuscan suicide attempts. Jacob/Bella, some Edward/Bella, some Sam/Emily/Leah.

Holy smokes this fic made me tired...because I could not stop reading it. I was up until three am, yet I told myself after each chapter I was going to bed. I didn't until I finished the whole thing. I read it in one day. I can't even describe how much I loved this fic. It was so emotionally draining., My heart hurt for everyone involved. It was romantic and sweet and slow paced. Jacob and Bella were perfect together, young and innocent. No smut, in a good, appropriate way. This one also had very little bad language in it. Written from Bella's pov. A new vampire (one created by the author) brings Edward back into town to protect Bella after he's been gone a long while and Jacob and Bella have already created a strong successful bond. Of course she's drawn back into Edward. Poor Jake is heart broken and dealing with imprint issues and loving Bella. Always loving Bella. It's devastating and depressing. But, I assure you this fic warms the heart and leaves you with a good feeling. It spans about four years and feels that way, yet it is a 27 chapter fic. Go figure. Again, the writing is superb and the author really pulls at heart strings. You have to read it! This author makes me not want to write smut because she captures romance and lust without the gory details. Well, like I said, it almost makes me want to not write smut, but I can't help myself. I'm to anxious to know what happens after they get naked and a dot dot dot just doesn't tell me anything. Oh well.

The Return of Bad Jacob

The Return of Bad Jacob by LeeLeeXtreme
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5083345/1/The_Return_of_Bad_Jacob
Summary: Set during Eclipse. After their first kiss, and after she "punched a werewolf," Bella decides to pay Jacob a visit and let him know where she stands. Rated M for Strong Language and Lemon, i.e. Sexual Situations. Mature viewers only. Epilogue coming soon.

I know I said I'd never review a story that's incomplete, but this one is sooo good even without the epilogue. I can't help myself!

Set during Eclipse and fits into the story without changing it. Brilliant! Jacob convinces Bella to use him sexually. To explore with him. All the while he and Edward are preparing for the battle with the newborns. This is so exciting, sexually charged, and somehow still in character. And even though Bella is acting like a super skank, I feel sorry for her. There are some definite surprises in this story too. The writing is excellent!

Nature vs. Nurture

Nature vs Nurture by Aspirations of Whimsy
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5374535/1/Nature_vs_Nurture
Sumary: AU- Growing up in Forks Bella was happy with her friends and her almost boyfriend, until her mother remarried and He came into her life. Or rather she was forced into his. How can something so natural be so wrong? M for action/lang/lemons

I avoided this fiction. It's about Bella and Jacob as step brother and sister. I did not want to read it. But, I caved and I'm so glad that I did. The love story is so good. The story covers years and works. I was not grossed out one bit. This story has one of the best loves scenes I've ever read. It's right up there with Lolashoes My Yes, My No. This author puts an interesting spin on imprinting that I found to make a lot of sense. Edward figures into the story too, but for once leaves Bella alone for her safety. He finds his own life. This story is romantic and funny and exciting. The monster drama is present but not too much and fight scenes amongst the wolves and vampires are really well written. I loved this fiction.

Team Edward safe.
