Thirty-Two by Jusobele
Summary: On the eve of Jacob Black's 32nd birthday, he flashes back over his life from age 16. He has known more pain than most men endure in an entire lifetime. Jacob Black deserves his happy ever after. Beta reading by MistC and pre-reading by niamhg.
Remember when you read Breakdown or The Definition of Want and thought, Yes, this is Jacob!? Well, I do. And that's how I feel about Jusobele's version of Jake. This is Jacob. Thank you.
Over the years I have been agravated with Canon Jake that is really a gangster or a whore or an abuser, and it's just not him. If you want him to be that way then write an AH Jake/Bella. It just doesn't make sense to me. Anyway, moving on . . .
This story is very unique in the way that it goes about the actually telling of Jake's story. Firstly, the whole thing is essentially a masive flashback, catagoriezd in years. Because of that there's a lot of telling, which honestly took me a while to get used to. I proimise, though, as the story draws closer to the present, there's much more showing, and it picks up a lot.
After Victoria is klled, Bella breaks up with Edward and runs the hell away. Far, far away to England for school. And she stays there. I know. Jake is dead set on her coming back for him, but she doesn't. He can't seem to move on, and everyone is worried for him. Years pass, and he finally meets someone and reluctantly and cautiously lets her into his life.
Her name is Marie. Marie. Sigh. I love Marie. And you can say what you want about her (those of you that have read it), but she is amazing. She did so much for Jake that no other woman would have considering his hangups. Oh, and the fact that, ya know, he's a werewolf. That scene, by the way, was hysterical.
While Jake is dating Marie, Bella is moving on too. We see this in third person glimpses of her life at the end of each chapter. I wondered for a while why the author would write in first person Jake and then switch to third person Bella. But you know what -- Bella's life is so stinky that this third person works. It's actually quite depressing but in a good way.
Jacob and Bella live seperate (happy and sad) lives until they cross paths again. What will become of them? Will they reconcile? How will Bella deal with his child? With his ex-wife? Read it!
