Chapter 1

Present Day

“Why are we at Charlie’s?” she asked, confusion written all over her face.

“You know why,” he said, folding his arms and leaning against the counter top.

“We shouldn’t be here now.”

“Charlie took Sue to the Lodge for the weekend, but you’re right. We shouldn’t be here now. We should have been here six years ago, and we should have stayed, or gotten our own place, or just eloped.”

“I can’t do this.” She stood stock still in the middle of the kitchen staring him down, not knowing what to do.

“Yes you can.”

“I can’t. I…”

“You can. You want to.”

“It’s too soon. I…”

He unfolded his arms and crossed the kitchen to where she was. She remained still, motionless, as always. Like a statue.

But, when he reached her and she could feel his body heat radiating around her, she dropped a shoulder. Just one. But that’s all he needed to see to know that he was right. She did want this, and they both knew it. It was about time.
